It's been too long since I last lunched with a debut main character, and I have worked up an appetite! Good news... it's lunch time again, and this time we're eating with Mary, the main character of Carrie Ryan's YA novel, THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH.
About The Forest of Hands
and Teeth
The Forest of Hands and Teeth
is about a young girl named Mary growing up generations after an apocalypse
in a village surrounded by fences protecting them from the Unconsecrated,
zombie-like creatures inhabiting the Forest of Hands and Teeth.
Cut off from the rest of the world and told they are the last survivors
of the Return, every part of her life is controlled by the religious
order called the Sisterhood. As Mary starts to fall in love with
someone she shouldn’t, she learns the extent of the Sisterhood’s
power and starts to discover more of their darkest secrets. When
the security of the fences is threatened and her world is thrown into
chaos, Mary must decide what she’s willing to risk to find out if
there’s life beyond the Forest.
I've got to admit... this book has one of the most intriguing titles I've ever seen. I can't wait to meet Mary!
Where are we eating?
It's a perfect day for a picnic so we're eating on a small hill overlooking the Forest of Hands and Teeth. The trees are just starting to bloom and the sounds of the birds in the trees will hopefully cover up the moaning Unconsecrated.
Moaning? Yikes, I'm a little nervous. But I like picnics, so hey... let's eat.
What's on the menu?
Being torn between two guys and not wanting to have to choose, I invited my best friend Cass. Don't talk to her about boys (it's an issue between us).
That's probably a really good choice. Boys can be so much trouble. I promise, I won't bring them up with Cass, either. Are there any other subjects I should stay clear of?
Ick. Rules. Naw, I'll stay away from that topic, for sure. What do you want to talk about instead?
So, Mary, are you getting alot of attention now that Carrie has shared your story?
Shoot, looks like we're out of time. Just enough time for a quick dessert. I brought Reeses! Mary, how do you eat a Reeses?
